A while back, YouTube started offering new movies for a price, but since last month, the service is also rolling out some free movies with breaks for advertisement. Since last month, many of great films including “Legally Blonde” and “The Terminator” have been offered for free with those ad breaks.

When asked about this new feature, YouTube’s director of product management Rohit Dhawan says the following:
“We saw this opportunity based on user demand, beyond just offering paid movies. Can we do ad-supported movies, free to the user? It also presents a nice opportunity for advertisers.”

Right there, there are about 100 movies that are being offered for free with ads, but Dhawan shares this will most likely expand. It depends however, on how studios will be moving forward in an ever-shifting industry filled with competition and new, fresh ideas.

YouTube is slowly shifting from the website we all know and love to a modern TV network.
