!!! Warning: spoilers !!!

The “Stranger Things” creators, the Duffer brothers, have revealed that two important main characters were actually supposed to die in the show’s first season.

It was revealed in a new book about the series, Stranger Things: Worlds Turned Upside Down, which shares some behind the scenes details about the show. According to NME, the following characters were not supposed to make it past season one.

Bob Newby (Sean Astin), was mean to die even earlier than he did now.

“Sean Astin proved so likeable that Bob’s death got pushed from episode four to episode eight because we kept wanting to keep him alive.
It was important to us and also to Sean to give him a bit of a hero’s death. We wanted him to accomplish something meaningful.”

Another character was Steve Harrington (Joe Keery).

“Steve was just supposed to be this giant douchebag. However, Keery’s likeness changed his character’s fate.”

The final and most shocking character that was actually supposed to sacrifice herself to save the day is Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown).

“Once we realized that the show was potentially going to go on longer than one season, we needed to leave it more up in the air, because deep down we knew the show just wouldn’t really work without Eleven. And at that point, we knew how special Millie was. If there was going to be more Stranger Things, Eleven had to come back.”

We are so glad they changed their minds.
