Jeff Gutt (Stone Temple Pilots) Opens Up About Friendship With Chester Bennington
Aside from being the vocalist of Linkin Park until he passed away last summer, Chester Bennington also used to be the frontman of Stone Temple Pilots between 2013 and 2015.
After his departure from the band, he was replaced by Jeff Gutt, who shared the following about their relationship: “I’ve known Chester since 2001. […] I was in a band called Dry Cell, and we were signed by the same guy that signed Linkin Park. […] I’d see him in the studios that we were at. When we were recording, they’d be recording there. We just had a good friendship.”
So much so, that when Gutt’s first show with Stone Temple Pilots came around, Chester was there too: “It my first private audition with STP, and he called and asked if he could come. He wanted to be there for that first show. So, I put him on my guest list. It was very cool that he could be there for that.”
He afterwards referred to the show and Jeff Gutt’s debut as an “awesome” job and, according to Gutt, always kept a very positive mindset towards Stone Temple Pilots after his departure: “Everyone just wants to see STP do well, and he was one of those people, for sure.”
