‘The Conjuring’ Creator Develops New Horror Franchise Based On True Events With ‘The Haunted’
Cinedigm, in partnership with horror mastermind Tony DeRosa-Grund, the creator of The Conjuring, is embarking on a new venture in film development with The Haunted, a paranormal horror franchise based on true events. The franchise is set to begin with one family’s chilling supernatural encounters, intertwined with historical facts and legends surrounding a young pregnant woman accused of witchcraft. The story culminates in the family facing imminent mortal danger.
The Haunted will explore the true-to-life accounts of a multi-generational family who experienced repeated and significant physical harm from malevolent supernatural forces, resulting in even death. This aspect of the story’s realism adds an element of terror and depth to the horror genre.
The franchise aims to create a universe of sequels, prequels, and spin-offs, similarly to the successful The Conjuring franchise. With the script completed, Cinedigm and Bloody Disgusting are looking for a director to lead the production, with DeRosa-Grund producing under the Nverse Pictures banner.
Cinedigm’s Managing Director, Tom Owen, is confident that The Haunted franchise will set a new standard for horror movies and connect with audiences of all demographics. Meanwhile, DeRosa-Grund has expressed excitement to be working with Cinedigm and Bloody Disgusting, who embraced the project from the initial pitch meeting.
