Scene Queen’s performance was one of the first times I ever felt old. Not particularly in age, but Scene Queen is one of the very few artists where I just do not get the appeal. She kicked things off with her single Finger, taken from her upcoming debut album Hot Singles In Your Area. The song is focused on sexual acts, in this particular scenario between two women, with lyricism that is rather ‘on the nose’ and vulgar. In-between choruses and songs she lets her political colours do the talking, as she promotes gay sex and her desire for men to just ‘shut the fuck up’.

When listening to the songs, I cannot say with certainty that the music itself took the forefront when these songs were written. Perhaps Scene Queen was more worried about getting her message across. To draw a comparison, Three Days Grace did the same with their album Human. Whether you stand by it or against it, the messages throughout the album are crystal clear but when it comes to Three Days Grace‘s Human, the music itself becomes a bit repetitive. In Scene Queen‘s example, the music seems a bit simplistic. While I understand there’s an audience out there for Scene Queen, I don’t count myself to be one of them.
