CONCERT REVIEW: PVRIS Are Musically Supreme During Tilburg Show

As we rapidly got through January, more and more shows are taking place, with an exceptional bill happening on the last day of the first month of 2023. PVRIS are headed to Tilburg for a show in Poppodium 013 with support from Charlotte Sands. Of course we were present to document and photograph proceedings!

If you have been paying attention, chances are Charlotte Sands is a name you have seen floating around more than a few times by now. Besides from her original material, Sands has recently been featured on songs from, among others, Sleeping With Sirens and Mod Sun and is now raking in an impressive more than 2 million streamers a month on Spotify alone. Attendees of tonight’s show made sure to come out early to catch Sands play her original music in a very energetic fashion. Even if we can consider Sands a ‘newcomer’, she is comfortable on stage, connecting with the crowd while maintaining a high quality sound. We are looking forward to see where her career will take her next. Check out some photos from her performance right below.

As stated in the title, PVRIS‘ show was superb from a musical perspective. Having seen PVRIS a bunch throughout the years, we can safely conclude that their discography has gotten quite diverse, with many new (and old) tracks translating very well to a live setting, such as Gimme A Minute, Monster and ANYWHERE BUT HERE as few of the many examples. The setlist truly was a career-spanning list, to no one’s surprise, as PVRIS came out absolutely swinging with their impeccable debut album White Noise, which was incorporated with the 4 songs Fire, Mirrors, My House and You And I (deluxe edition).

Lynn Gunn sounds just as great as she does on the studio versions, but therein does lie a teeny tiny problem if you ask me, as the show does not, and again, in my humble opinion, stimulate the optical senses to the fullest. The focus lays on the musical aspect, which they do incredibly well. The live renditions are top notch and the plants on stage certainly add to the experience, but the lightning is dark and dull. It certainly does add a sense of mystique, and perhaps that is what PVRIS are going for on their current tour, and maybe it just isn’t for me, but I would have loved to see a bit more spectacle surrounding the music, with a nice backdrop and some more prominent lightning to say the least.

Enough negativity, even if the lightning was not all that, PVRIS are an exceptional live act, vocally and instrumentally. The instrumental interludes from GIMME A MINUTE and Hallucinations were a personal highlight. This band is as diverse as they come and takes you on a journey throughout their set, with energetic highs and emotional lows and we are absolutely here for it. Curious to see what the set looked like? Check some photos from the set in the gallery below.

Fall Out Boy 2023

Fall Out Boy Release Second Single, ‘Heartbreak Feels So Good’

Earlier this week, Fall out Boy announced that they were going to be releasing their second single off of their upcoming album So Much (For) Stardust, which will release on the 24th of March via Fueled By Ramen.

The announcement came after their one-off Chicago show at the Metro, which is happening tonight, sold out very quickly.

Now, the day is here! The new song, called Heartbreak Feels So Good, follows the first single, Love From The Other Side, which the band released exactly a week ago.

On the release of the album, which is the follow-up to the band’s 2018 record MANIA, vocalist Patrick Stump has the following to say:

“Technology has made it really easy to make records much more quickly these days. There’s nothing wrong with that, and that spontaneity can be exciting. But we wanted to get back to the way we used to work. We wanted to make a record that was really lovingly crafted and deliberate and patiently guided – like someone cooked you a delicate meal. I’m not a very proud guy, but I’m pretty proud of this record.”

Unfortunately, on the same day they announced the new album, guitarist and founding member Joe Trohman revealed on Instagram, that he’s “stepping away from Fall Out Boy for a spell,” due to a decline in his mental health. We hope he feels better soon!

The new track comes with an accompanying music video, which you can check out below!

what's happening with The Amity Affliction
The Amity Affliction @ Effenaar, Eindhoven

CONCERT REVIEW: The Amity Affliction Are On Top Of Their Game During Eindhoven Show

We kicked off the year with one hell of a concert. Unfortunately, we had to miss the two first amazing bands this evening: SeeYouSpaceCowboy and Gideon, but we witnessed the greatness that is Fit For A King and The Amity Affliction.

For both artists, it’s been a while since they were last in the Netherlands, with Fit For A King‘s last visit taking place in April of 2019 as support act for Emmure. This time around. they were direct support for the Australian hardhitters The Amity Affliction.

Given it has been a while since the band played shows in Europe, these shows were fully focused on the band’s new material. In 2018, Fit For A King released their very popular album Dark Skies, but their releases after that The Path (2020) and The Hell We Create (2022) have further cemented the band’s position within the scene. The setlist, consisting of 10 songs, was entirely made up of their most recent 3 bodies of work, including the popular God Of Fire and When Everything Means Nothing. The energy Fit For A King displayed on stage worked infectious on the audience, and made us hungry for more. Lucky for us, the band revealed on stage that they will be back later this year for a headliner tour. The band had a headliner tour planned in Europe back in 2021, but we all know what happened to prevent this from happening. Check out some photos from the band’s performance below.

Fit For A King:

We were so excited to see The Amity Affliction live again. There are few bands as strong live as The Amity Affliction musically, as their music live sounds even grander than it does on the recorded versions. Breakdowns, generally led vocally by Joel Birch are amplified by screams from Ahren Stringer and the clean vocals (mostly during the choruses of the songs) sound incredible. The Amity Affliction‘s setlist knew a bit more variation, which is obviously easier to do with a bigger setlist, but the Australian metalcore formation’s throwback came in the form of Chasing Ghosts, off the album with the same name which released back in 2012.

The biggest shareholder on the setlist was the immensely popular Let The Ocean Take Me, which released back in 2014, but still holds the band’s most popular single Pittsburgh. As stated earlier, The Amity Affliction is immaculate when it comes to its musical delivery in a live setting, but this does mean the band’s interaction takes a backseat. Luckily, the band’s discography has expanded since their last visit to The Netherlands, but I do believe that if The Amity Affliction want to move on to bigger stages and festival slots, the production needs to be invested in (at least in Europe, I don’t know how their shows are in the US or Australia!).

Nevertheless, we were absolutely ecstatic for the band’s return and had a splendid night with the band’s live renditions. Check out some photos from their set right below and let us know if you are going to see this epic bill live somewhere in the coming weeks.
