CONCERT REVIEW: I Prevail Play Two Massive Sold Out Shows In The Netherlands On Their First Visit

Back in 2019, I Prevail played a select amount of dates and festivals in Europe, among which the first-ever show in Germany at Rock Am Ring, where they amassed an absolutely huge audience while not even playing the mainstage. It was already very likely at that point that I Prevail would continue on the path they were on to become one of the biggest bands in the scene. Fast words 3,5 years and a pandemic later, and the band finally returned to Europe to take on a lot of countries for the first time, and that includes The Netherlands.

The band managed to sell out not one, but two shows in the country, the first one being in Melkweg the Max, with a capacity of 1500. If that was not impressive enough for their first show in The Netherlands, I Prevail also managed to sell out Poppodium 013 in Tilburg, which can hold up to 3000 fans. Eager to check the band’s performance again after chatting with them minutes after they came off stage in Germany in 2019, we got to see and photograph I Prevail in both Amsterdam and Tilburg.

While originally the TRAUMA tour, I Prevail have released their third full-length TRUE POWER in 2022, which resulted in a mixed setlist which heavily featured both albums. On the Tilburg show, the band played 1 additional song in comparison to the Amsterdam show, and played a total of 15 songs, with 7 of those songs being from TRUE POWER and 5 from TRAUMA. The rest was filled with fan-favourites Come And Get It and Scars from the band’s debut album and the song from ILLENIUM they were featured on Feel Something.

From start to finish, I Prevail delivered an amazing show that showcased their incredible talent and energy. Eric Vanlerberghe and Brian Burkheiser, the band’s dynamic vocal duo, was an absolute powerhouse on stage, delivering vocals that effortlessly alternated between singing and aggressive screaming. His energy was infectious and the crowd was fully engaged throughout the entire performance. From start to finish, I Prevail’s performance was contagiously energetic. The band was ecstatic to finally be playing headliner shows in Europe, and the fans in the audience were very clearly elated to see the band finally perform in The Netherlands. Both shows were a celebration and we feel so fortunate to have witnessed them both.

The band’s talent, passion, and showmanship were all on full display, and it was clear that they had poured their hearts and souls into their performance, as they do their music. It’s no coincidence I Prevail have grown to become one of the biggest bands in the scene in a matter of years, and we are excited to see what will be next for the band. Check out photos from the band’s Amsterdam and Tilburg show below and make sure to catch I Prevail on the road if the opportunity presents itself.

Spiritbox Withdraw From Tour With Falling In Reverse After Online Backlash

Spiritbox have officially withdrawn from the tour dates they had planned supporting Falling In Reverse on the Popular Monstour which is set to take place in the summer.

After the announcement took place, fans were quick to rage at the band for touring with Falling In Reverse and evidence suggests the backlash has worked. It’s not a closely guarded secret that Ronnie Radke does not have the best reputation, so proper due diligence could arguably have avoided this whole situation.

Check out Spiritbox’s official ‘statement’ below and let us know if you are going to any of the shows on the tour.

CONCERT REVIEW: Starset Give Biggest Dutch Demonstration To Date

After a successful co-headliner show of Sleeping With Sirens and DON BROCO in Melkweg, the Saturday brought yet another sold-out show to Melkweg’s biggest room: Starset. The band played one of the last shows before the pandemic hit back in 2020, in Melkweg as well, but that time, the band played a sold-out show in the ‘Oude Zaal’ with a capacity of around 700 people. This time, Starset sold out the ‘Max’, filled to the brim with 1500 ecstatic fans, who have waited patiently for the pandemic to be over so Starset could return for their biggest Dutch show to date.

Starset hold a special place in our hearts. We’ve seen the band every time they’ve come to The Netherlands, including the two shows for Breaking Benjamin they opened, and sat down with frontman Dustin Bates twice throughout the years. From the first show on, and hearing Bates‘ philosophy on the band, the shows and the future back in 2016 and 2017, it honestly did not come as a surprise to us to see the band blow up as they have in recent years.

Besides listeners, Starset’s liveshow has expanded every single time we have seen them. Needless to say, we were joyous to witness the band’s show yet again, in yet a bigger room than the last time and I sound like a broken record, but they were yet again better than last time.

With 4 albums under their belt so far, the setlist was very varied and felt like a celebration of the ‘hits’ throughout the years than a tour surrounding the last album. The band honestly brought it all. Unique costumes, a costume change halfway through the show, screens, a 7th band member to take care of all things electronic live, CO2 cannons and mesmerizing music. The use of multimedia elements, such as projections and lighting, added an immersive dimension to the performance, making it feel almost like a theatrical production. During the costume change, an ‘ad’ was shown for the “Everything Machine” that would let you “Experience Everything”: The BMI. A brain controlling device that was first introduced in the music video for Monster.

Besides from the hits we all come to expect from a Starset show, including My Demons, Monster, Carnivore and countless others, lesser known songs like DEVOLUTION and ICARUS truly came to life in a live setting. Overall, the show was fast-paced, high energy but there were also moments of intimacy and vulnerability, with the band slowing things down and allowing the audience to fully connect with the emotion of the music, for example the performance of Die For You and EARTHRISE.

Overall, the Starset concert was a truly unique and unforgettable experience that left me in awe of the band’s talent and creativity. The combination of powerful music, stunning visuals, and genuine passion for their craft made for an incredible evening that will hold us over until the next show, which will very most likely be bigger and better yet again.

CONCERT REVIEW: DON BROCO & Sleeping With Sirens Co-Headliner Tour Rages Through Amsterdam

On the cold, snowy Friday night of March 10, Amsterdam venue Melkweg was packed with alternative teens and veterans (alt adults in their 20s and 30s) for the epic co-headliner show of Sleeping With Sirens and DON BROCO. Surprisingly enough, Sleeping With Sirens were the first of the two co-headliners to take the stage, and at precisely 20:00, they did exactly that.

While the band recently released their new album Complete Collapse, the setlist of the evening did not reflect this at all. With only 2 songs from the new album being played (Bloody Knuckles & Crosses), the majority of the setlist came from the band’s 2019 album How It Feels To Be Lost, being featured 5 times on the setlist of a total of 14 songs. The remainder of the setlist was a celebration of the band’s extensive discography, playing songs from all albums and of course the popular acoustic EP from 2012 if you were a movie this would be your soundtrack. Absent from the setlist were the albums Feel and Gossip.

Overall, Sleeping With Sirens‘ performance was a stellar one, if not a bit static. There was not a lot of room for crowd interaction, but rather the band focused on delivering high quality music to a crowd that was honestly already happy with the fact that the band returned to The Netherlands for the first time since 2019. Sleeping With Sirens are a landmark in the alternative scene and given the enthusiasm of tonight’s crowd, that feeling won’t be going away anytime soon.

As the band’s set came to a close, the band closed with If You Can’t Hang, one of their biggest hits. The crowd sang along to every word, creating a powerful moment of unity and connection between band and fans. It was clear that Sleeping With Sirens had delivered a performance that would be remembered for a long time to come.

After Sleeping With Sirens‘ set was over, we were sad to see more than a few fans leave the venue. DON BROCO and Sleeping With Sirens‘ fanbases do slightly differ and this became apparent after the set. While some left early, of course the majority of the 1500 attendees stuck around for DON BROCO‘s performance, and they were in for a treat. Whereas Sleeping With Sirens‘ priority laid with the music, DON BROCO alloted their effort a bit different, and asked for multiple mosh/circlepits and walls of death throughout the set.

DON BROCO‘s music is as funny as it is good, and the band members don’t seem to take themselves too serious on stage, either. During the first few songs, vocalist Rob Damiani was thrown a few cowboy hats from the audience and being the good sport that he is, he wore them for a short while before tossing them back into the buzzing crowd.

DON BROCO‘s setlist had a clear focus on the band’s most recent album Amazing Things, which made up half the setlist. Honorable mentions on the setlist were the throwback to the band’s first album Priorities with the performance of the title song of the album, which had a surprising amount of people sing back the lyrics and of course the song that apparently the entire world knows and loves (as they should): Everybody. This song has a fandom of its own, Everybody is an upbeat and energetic song that showcases DON BROCO‘s ability to create infectious, anthemic tracks and in a live setting it really pops off.

Overall, DON BROCO delivered a high-energy performance that showcased their talent and charisma. Their ability to blend genres and create infectious, anthemic songs makes them one of the most exciting rock bands on the scene today. Fans left the venue buzzing with excitement, eager for the next opportunity to see them live.
