MILKK Release New Single ‘Ultra’

milkk

Here at Strife, our love of MILKK has been made evident in many ways. To the delight of many, the band have released yet another stand-alone single, the newest titled ‘Ultra’.

Being a band that is only growing in popularity, it would be easy for them to continue with the sound they have established, maintaining the fan base in which projects like ‘Headrush’ brought in.

However, MILKK is known to never take the easy road, and will instead overcome every obstacle to stay true to their own sound preferences, growing identity and changing ideas. The track is beyond what myself and many MILKK fans expected, but in the best way possible.

A sombre and mellow beginning to the song ultimately glides into a layered, more vibrant peak toward the conclusion. There is no staggering, nor a fight between choruses and verses. Instead, the track offers a new structure; yet another example of MILKK creating their own sound. It’s a track that creates an atmosphere, ultimately shaping a listening experience around you.

With brilliance oozing out of their latest singles, we can not wait to hear what is next. Luckily, that wait will conclude shortly. On the 1st of November, MILKK will be releasing their newest collection of tracks, their EP, ‘God Loves You & So Do I’.

If you are like us and can’t wait, take a listen to the new single ‘Ultra’ below. Let us know what you think, and if you are excited about the new EP!

FEATURE: Kindness Is Creeping Back Into The Music World. Here Are The Artists Paving The Way!

twenty-one-pilots

No matter the genre and no matter the scene, it is beyond inevitable for each individual to have pre-existing opinions upon one of the most prevalent industries in our modern world; the music industry. A day of scrolling through social media and its whirlwind of opinion is enough to convince any uninformed person that the primary reception of the music world surrounding us is a negative one. Of course, these thoughts are valid, fuelled by some of the ignorant, horrendous and often unacceptable actions of artists who abuse their platform and manipulate the individuals who hold them so dearly in their hearts. It is these artists and acts that continue to tarnish the name of the music world, reinforcing prominent and harmful stereotypes that a plethora of artists are attempting to demolish.

After my love of music caused me to become engulfed in the music world, my first-hand experiences have lead me to a new discovery. There is more to the industry than snobby artists and half-hearted messages being pumped to devoted fans; there is something much, much more than this. Connections are being constructed, the hierarchy between artists and audiences are being abolished, safe and respectful communities are forming, and a culture of kindness is creeping back into music. At the centre of these formations are artists; artists who hold the hearts of their fans within their hands, artists who aim to create a generation of individuals with acceptance and kindness in their blood, artists who are like family.

Prior to my realisation, I too became worried as a lover of music, and scared as a fan, as to what the music industry would have in store for me. I had heard all the stories. I did not want to be the next fan who got yelled at by an artist on stage, I did not want to be called out for a minimalistic action, I did not want to be made fun of by men who were three times my age, and as a young girl attending shows, I certainly did not want to get manipulated in the already desirable environment by someone I had always looked up to. These are the stereotypes that encompass the industry, and therefore became the stereotypes I would come to accept as true.

Over the past three years, my opinion has been flipped on its head.

Whilst I know that ignorance, hatred, conceitedness and pure malevolency still lurks in the darkness of the music world, I ask myself and others this; why should we let the actions and subsequent ramifications of ungrateful artists overshadow the good deeds and hard work of a multitude of kind and respectful artists?

The acts that I am soon to discuss have restored my faith in more than just the music world. They have made me believe that no matter the status, we can get along as equals. They have demonstrated that kindness is not something embarrassing, and strive to make connections with everyone they come across. They show that cultures of caring can be created with music at its core and that fans can band together to create a safe, loving and special environments. They have proved that there is hope for the next generations of music lovers… and people.

Of course, these claims may come as a stretch, but once you hear some of the actions of the soon to be mentioned artists, and possibly consider some of the positive interactions you have had in your time, it becomes a little less far-fetched.

I’d like to start with an artist that within my life, has had the most profound impact on myself and others. Brendan Tuckerman is for me, the most exemplary figure in regards to all the positive things previously mentioned. For those of you unaware of the Australian music scene, Tuckerman goes by the performance name of ‘Tuka’ (not Tooka), and has reached outstanding success in both his solo work and group projects such as Thundamentals. Apart from his meaningful lyricism and powerful messages found within each of his tracks, Tuka has managed to do more with the platform he worked so hard to build. He is not so much allowing a culture of kindness to creep back into the music world but is slaving away to create a well-polished and welcoming entrance for it.

Out of a multitude of amazing actions, there are a few I would like to explicitly mention. First of this would have to be the ‘CatSquad’. Earlier this year, Tuka called for some of his fans to send him a message. Whilst this may already sound shocking for some, this is the norm when being a fan of his work. When you follow or interact with any Thundamentals post or Tuka post, he will acknowledge it and make sure his appreciation is known. Within these special messages, he asked us to tell him a bit about how his music has anyway affected us, and what it has done to shape the lives of the many fans he has. From this, the first pillars of CatSquad were under construction. In no less than two weeks, a large portion of those who sent him a message received some of his most prized musical possessions, signed rarities and other cool items! Not pleading for a thank you, Tuka asked for only one thing; to pay it forward. Fast forward to today, hundreds of individuals have come together, continuing to pay it forward to other Tuka fans, members of the community and Catsquad members. These actions range from small community pay it forwards like shouting someone a coffee, all the way to group pay it forwards like purchasing tickets for less fortunate members of the group. Through one individual’s initial action, a spark has been ignited in many- with music at the core, acting as a generator that connects all chords together. Tuka has created a safe community for his fans and has cast together an abundance of friendly, caring, like-minded individuals to shape their surrounding communities and leave an impact on others.

I would also like to briefly mention the ways in which Tuka is destroying the norm in regards to artist and audience hierarchy. He truly does not believe that he is above anyone. This was slightly touched on earlier in regards to the messages. From first-hand experience, I can confirm that he will hold a conversation, he will make your ideas feel valued, and he will absorb everything you offer him, much like a friend in a discussion. There is truly no greater feeling than being listened to by someone you have looked up to for many years. Even after a long and tiresome show, Tuka still exhibits this kindness; staying behind to meet and converse with every fan. Alongside this, he has also chipped away at the platform separating established and upcoming artists. Recently, he ran a competition that was open to all interested artists, offering supporting slots to all his national tour dates. Through this, he is not only providing a platform for others but is exhibiting that there truly is no difference between us. No act nor artist is untouchable. By him giving back to those who admire him, so too will they remember to give back to those who look up to them. A culture of kindness is being bred into the next generation- all stemming from one man trying to escape the clutches of the stigmatised industry.

Next, I would like to focus on an act that for me, has shown kindness to all their fans, demonstrating that there is no hierarchy, and we truly are all the same. That act is Australian pop-punk band, Between You and Me. Much like all the acts and artists, I discuss in this article, I can not speak highly enough of BYAM. One particular night truly showcased the above notions to me. Earlier this year, the band was opening for The Faim in Sydney- a lineup that was constructed in heaven. At the conclusion of Between You and Me’s set, they announced they would be at the merch table afterwards.

I know what you are thinking, “Wow, big whoop Georgia! You met them at the merch table”. However, this experience was much different; it was heartwarming and eye-opening. I stumbled across their lead singer, Jake Wilson, as he was mid-discussion with some friends. Despite this, he promptly turned to me. Hearing an abundance of mortifying stories of fans being shunned away, I sheepishly only asked for a picture. To my surprise, Jake introduced himself as if I were unaware of who he was. He asked my name, discussed the show that night and expressed his gratitude for my support. I later met the rest of the band at the merch desk- a merch desk that they were running and selling their own merch from. I was yet again surprised by the treatment I received; I was thanked for my support, a few jokes were made and a conversation that felt like it was between old friends was had. This has been an experience that has lingered with me ever since.

For so long my preconceived thoughts upon the music world built a strong wall between artist and audience. Of course, reports of artists showing immense amounts of disrespect to fans had fueled this, and quite frankly, it made me frightened to test my luck with anyone remotely famous in their field. However, within one night, Between You and Me showcased that anyone that truly represents what the scene encapsulates does not act like that. They should strive to make a connection with fans, treat their fans with respect and assist in demolishing the harmful stereotypes of the music industry- and if they do not, then the platform they have should be swiped from beneath them. The friendly Australian’s from this band helped me to understand that there is no hierarchy in music, and if met with one, my respect should lie elsewhere. It is clear to see that Between You and Me are only growing, and it is what they deserve. Through my experiences with them, I can easily say we will be growing with them too. They are leaving a footprint behind that won’t erase with time.

Lastly, I would like to mention a band we are all familiar with, Twenty One Pilots. If I were to write about all the positive things that they have done within their career and the numerous ways they have impacted both myself and others, we would have a fifty-page essay on our hands. Apart from their message, their morals, and their lyrics, I would like to focus upon the community they have built; the Skeleton Clique, the Clique, the ‘Clikkies’. Through their music, the two-piece band have created a family, a group with music at its core; a home for the few, the proud and the emotional. Within my time being in the fan base, I have seen nothing but acceptance, support and love. Tyler and Josh have created a community that aims to enhance the connection to the band and other fans, allowing even the most isolated to find a companion-filled escape from the negativity of the world. For this, myself and others are forever grateful. Whilst this has only been a brief description of their actions, I must not get myself on a tangent about this band, because there will be no end. However, it is essential to point out that they do not get enough recognition for their actions. Despite their increasing popularity, their love and attention to the fans ceases to fade, instead, we become the fire to keep going. The Clique is more than just a fan group, but a story of the power and influence people hold. Two men have created a community overflowing with kindness, centralized by important music that so many need to hear. Twenty One Pilots have single-handedly shattered the overlying stereotypes that bands deal with, and have once again, turned on a light of hope that reflects towards the music industry.

To conclude, I once again question why we let the tarnished name of the music world overshadow artists such as the ones discussed. I can whole-heartedly say that without my personal experiences, I would still be terrified of what lies behind the music that I love so much. This notion is truly unacceptable. We should not have to fear nor adhere to the stereotypes set by others- ones that destroy the experience that music promotes. Of course, precautions regarding these topics is not harmful, but to see the discussed ideas labelled as inevitable has become all too common. This is something that needs to change, and the ball lies within many artists courts. Other artists have shown how easy it is to destroy these stereotypes, and their footsteps must not be left to fade. It is time for artists to put their best foot forward.

If you stumble across the right artists, there is no hierarchy, there is no hatred, instead, there is love, acceptance, gratitude, and an evident culture of kindness that is creeping back into the music world.

Strife Exclusive: Katastro Single Premiere

katastro

The alternative music scene today is flooded with bands and acts that all too often overlap in ideas and sound, becoming lost in a sea of similarity.

Since 2007, Katastro have been paving their own path and creating their own unique identity. Their lack of confinement to any strict genre or set of musical rules has brought in a plethora of fans and a multitude of artists who respect them.

Following the release of their album ‘Washed’ in 2018, the band quickly became a prevalent aspect of the scene, well-known for their experimental nature and individualism. Since this positive response, Katastro have been working tirelessly in the depths of their studio, producing their fourth full-length album to date.

The new album, ‘Tropical Heartbreak’ is set to be released on the 18th of October- but that hasn’t stopped them from giving fans a taste of what’s to come in the form of singles such as ‘Antisocial’.

If you have been following and enjoying the singles so far, we have some amazing news for you! Katastro has shared their next single exclusively with us, Strife Magazine! That’s right, you get to hear it here first!

The new single, ‘Pine’, is a versatile, unique and emotive track, sure to exude the same depth and connection most Katastro songs exhibit.

We were fortunate enough to share a few words with bassist, Ryan Weddle- someone who’s words truly encapsulate the nature of this track;

“Sometimes you find yourself bending backwards for everyone around you and there can be a moment where you stop and notice the position you’ve let yourself get into. Pine is a song just about that. How did things get here and how did I not see this all along. It can be easy to justify small actions and not fully grasp the bigger picture of what’s to come."

Alongside this in-depth look into the track, Weddle also shared the true meaning of the name; a meaning much deeper than first anticipated,

“"Pine
/pīn/
verb:
suffer a mental and physical decline, especially because of a broken heart.”

Listen to ‘Pine’ here;

EP Review: Yungblud- ‘Hope For The Underrated Youth’

yungblud

The future of music is proving to be more about the messages spread and the impact made, rather than the composition of songs themselves. In our modern day, music is one of our most powerful tools for connection; bringing people together from far and wide to connect, inspire, and make a change. There have been countless examples of music in the past, particularly the 90’s, creating a culture of change; a movement that has escaped most recent tracks. However, there is one artist that is bringing this all back, creating a revolution through every word he passionately states. Yungblud is quickly becoming an integral part of the alternative music scene and no matter how hard you try, you will see his name plastered everywhere. Since the dawn of his career in the form of singles, to the uprising fame brought upon by his debut album ‘21st Century Liability’, Yungblud speaks with passion, truth, and a lack of regard for the outdated stereotypes of the world today. His latest EP release, ‘The Underrated Youth’, has demonstrated yet again why Yungblud is one of the most powerful figures of music and makes certain that his voice will ring through as a catalyst for hope amongst this generation’s underrated youth.

The EP initializes with the track ‘braindead!’. Before I begin speaking about this track, I suppose it is important to mention that this is my favourite track from the collection of songs within this EP. Perhaps this claim only strengthens what myself, and others, think about the song. Upon first listen, I was enticed. I had to restart it, replay it, listen to the words, then listen to the song. It was no mere casual listen but was an immersive listening experience from the first second of sound. Moreover, I feel this track offered something a little different in terms of the Yungblud vibe. In particular, the riff and chant-like verses alluded to musical styles dusted off from the depths of the new wave of punk music within the 1990s. Despite Yungblud obviously having a connection to this genre due to his powerful morals and outspoken nature, the musical influence has never been so prevalent. Through the inclusion of such sounds, he has ultimately created a track that feels new but continues to hold the same aspects of his musical identity within the lyrics. No matter the underlying instrumentals and beats, Yungblud can mould his own personal voice into anything, making anything and everything seem like he is the only person to have ever used it. To start off the EP, this track is an exemplar. Whilst this may not have been his intention, ‘braindead!’ communicated the high standard in which the rest of the EP had to meet. Luckily enough, it only gets better.

For the second track, we are reintroduced to the incredible, previously released single, ‘parents’. Upon its release, this song sparked a movement, leading to a flame that is yet to be put out. For me, this track encapsulates why we are titled as the ‘underrated youth’, as well as providing a reason to fight. Full of opinions that some may call ‘offensive’ or ‘controversial’, the most fitting of them to the cause are the lines; “My high hopes are getting low // Because these people are so old… It’s alright, we’ll survive // ‘cause parents ain’t always right”. Within the short time, this song has been lingering around audiences, it has already become an anthem; an anthem of change, solidarity, and youth. Through ‘parents’, Yungblud has used his platform to stand by those growing alongside him. In a world where children are mocked for their ideas, ridiculed for their desire to change things and muted when trying to use their voice, he has offered the tallest of platforms, the loudest of microphones and the most undeniable support. Wrapped up in the form of a catchy song, these are words pleading for someone to listen, inspiring change in many of those who hear it. The impact that this track has already had is unquestionable, and I believe it will still be used as an anthem of change in the future. Tracks such as ‘parents’ prove that Yungblud not only has a voice but a voice that strives for change and unification within an undynamic and conflicting world.

Following this is a track in the form of an exciting collaboration! Paired with the vocals of Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Renyolds, ‘original me’ is an ode to self-awareness. Travelling through the lyrics, we as an audience so too travel along a journey of insecurity, self-doubt, but most importantly, self-knowledge. “I’m self-critical, a tryhard original”. Although such a song would generally invoke feelings of pity and empathy, this track fails to do so. Instead, it becomes a sign of hope and solidarity. It reminds the audience that no single person is struggling alone- a notion that is only heightened by the fact it is a collaborative track. Apart from the thought-provoking lyrics, this song also grabs the listener’s attention through the jarring juxtaposition of voices. I feel as though the best way to explain the stark contrast between Dom and Dan’s voices would be smooth versus rugged. Individually, their voices are two very different styles, and together they remain to be different. However, when put together in a track like ‘original me’, they complement one another- creating a perfect balance. ‘original me’ proves that collaborations can always offer something new and in the cases of this track, can help signify solidarity and unification.

Track four appears as ‘casual sabotage’. Already, this track has been one of the most talked-about songs from ‘The Underrated Youth’ EP. Far more mellow than the other tracks, this song tones down the EP for the first time. There is something quite special about Yungblud and the way he can manipulate his voice. There is real sincerity within the ‘sad songs’, and as a listener, you genuinely feel what the song is describing. On multiple Yungblud tracks, I have found myself feeling like I have just suffered a blow to the chest- emotionally, his raw and tender vocals hit you like a freight train. ‘casual sabotage’ is one of those tracks. To add to this, the creation of depth within tracks like this create a sense of personalization- something that was meant specifically for the person listening. If you have ever read any album reviews I have written, I generally analyse every lyric I love and attach my own meaning to it. I love this whole song, yet can not decipher what it means in text. Why is this? It’s because the song was made for each and every person. We can all interpret the situation at hand, connect it to ourselves, and find ourselves relating to the track at hand. The openness and vulnerability displayed have opened up a pathway of connection- one that creeps in on a personal level. I feel this song is as deep for the fans as it is for Yungblud, and shows why the trust in each other always seems to go both ways. ‘causal sabotage’ is a beautiful track that requires no fancy additives, relying on its depth, vulnerability and rawness to fuel a connection.

Up next is the title track, ‘hope for the underrated youth’. This track encapsulates everything previously mentioned; everything that makes a track undeniably Yungblud. It packs a punch of emotion, spreads a powerful message, questions what we once knew, aims to unite, and acts as an anthem for change. Within every line, there is a powerful message, but perhaps the most powerful of them comes from a line that is passionately asserted over and over again; “there’s hope for the underrated youth”. As a younger member of the upcoming leaders, change-makers and individuals of tomorrow, there is nothing quite as empowering to hear. Despite the lack of regard for what our generation has stood for and everything we continue to stand for, there are still individuals who will fight for us. As I previously mentioned, Yungblud is using his platform to empower those around him, holding up the people who have once held him. Yungblud has a connection to his fans like no other artist. You can see that within videos of live shows and the trust within interactions in the crowd, and better yet, you can see it in these songs. The connection that is held goes both ways, and together, ignite the desire to start a revolution; to spark change.

Concluding the EP is ‘waiting on the weekend’, yet another stripped back and vulnerable track. In accompaniment of an acoustic guitar and somewhat isolated vocals, this track provides one of the most vulnerable moments within Yungblud’s music to date. It was such an unexpected conclusion, differing to the expectations of many. In saying this, it is most certainly better than any listener could have imagined the final song. Despite the obvious rawness, the track is presented in such a stripped-back manner that it illuminates a part of the mind of Yungblud. We are called to listen to his mind and words only, adjusting our focus completely to what is important. This track lingers with you for quite some time and provides closure to the EP at hand. Satisfyingly, the EP is concluded, and as a listener, a feeling of hope is reached.

Through Yungblud’s latest EP, ‘Hope For The Underrated Youth’, the power of music is highlighted. Through just six tracks, Yungblud has inspired a movement. As a lister, we become united in thought and joined together by our ultimate collaborative goals. This release has also managed to demonstrate why Yungblud is such an essential figure within our scene. Not only does he create masterpieces, but he unites people together, advocates for change, uses his platform for good, and travels alongside his fans in the often difficult journey of life. Through the EP, not only is there hope for the future of music, but there is clearly ‘hope for the underrated youth’.

You can check out the EP below and let us know what you think!

Live Review: With Confidence Return Home

with-confidence

There is nothing quite like a hometown show.

In the span of a few hours, you and the surrounding audience get to experience just how much the artist, that was once wandering the same streets as you, has grown, proving that there are no limitations surrounding location, and that it is truly talent and determination that sets acts apart.

Within the last few years, Australian pop-punk band, With Confidence, have been swiftly increasing in popularity, becoming a prominent name within the scene. After the exceptional reception received after the release of their most recent album, ‘Love and Loathing’, it was inevitable that the boys would take this amazing collection of songs on the road. After an already extensive run of shows, it was time to deliver to one of their biggest fan bases- the Australian audience. In particular, the fans of Sydney.

with-confidence-1

Housing the show for the night was the incredible Factory Theatre. Although often described as a small venue, the room squeezes more than enough people within every time; creating an energy like no other, and an environment with outstanding electricity.

Crammed into every corner and sprawled across every inch of grimy floor, individuals were eagerly awaiting the start of what was to be an impeccable night.

In order to kick off the event, With Confidence enlisted the help of some of Australia’s finest up and coming acts.

Initialising the night were Stuck Out, a rock band from Melbourne who pack a punch, both musically and in performance. From the first seconds of their set until the moment they walked off the stage, their energy was second to none. It was evident to see that they were aiming to showcase not only their talent but why they deserved to be the opening spot for such an iconic Australian band. In my eyes, they did much more than prove this; but also demonstrated why they deserve to be the next band from Australia to go big. To be expected, there were the usual uninterested attendees, seeming to conserve all their energy for the main act. Despite this, Stuck Out’s energy never diminished! Instead, they fought back – connecting with a plethora of fans who were already screaming the lyrics back to them. Already owning the hearts of many of the fans, and certainly winning over some new ones on this night, Stuck Out will only become more prominent within the scene. Their emotion is genuine and is evident within the recorded tracks, on stage and in general conversation. Nothing is left in the tank by the end of the performance, instead allowing it all to spill on stage; the ultimate depiction of true performers. Even after exerting all the energy they had, they still made time to chat and take pictures at the merch table, truly putting the fans first. I can not speak highly enough of Stuck Out, and having witnessed their live show has converted me into a fan of their work. I recommend tapping into their latest EP, ‘You Won’t Come Home’ to acquire just a slither of the passion and emotion they spilled on the night.

Next up was the incredible Stateside. If you have attended gigs within Australia, it is almost impossible to escape the incredible four-piece band. As openers and headliners, Stateside are opportunistic, jumping upon every performance slot they can. Their determination and pure passion for performing has seen them rocking out with some of the scene’s finest, such as All Time Low. Due to this, Stateside’s fan base is large and dedicated, with many fans arriving at shows purely for their music. As drastic as this may sound, this notion becomes a little less far-fetched when the opportunity to see them live arises. Much like their fellow acts, the energy poured out upon the stage was absolutely incredible, filling the room with a harmonious, ‘feel good’ vibe- warming up the crowd just as they intend to do. Despite the effortless perfection and incredible live performance, there was one moment within their set that stood out to me in particular. In light of some unfortunate circumstances regarding a member of the band, Stateside took a moment to have a serious conversation; one that is all too sparse in shows such as these. Erin halted the role of front-woman to extend her knowledge and advice on to the crowd. Between the audience and artist, a large discussion regarding the importance of mental health was had, alongside the acknowledgement of practicing what you preach- particularly when it comes to the scheme of mental health. By the end of this moving and inspiring chat, there were no dry eyes to be seen. For a moment, everyone was silent, taking the time to process the essential messages that were just unveiled. However, this was only met with a roar of applause; directed towards Ethan, the member in which this important conversation arose from. It was clear that both Stateside and the fans wished to conclude with passion, making up for the void that was left from the absent member. Through a remarkable banding together of people, the crowd represented him in the best way possible, showing him tremendous support from a distance. With all this in mind, the set went on with the same exhilarating spark that it had before.

with-confidence-live

Not only did Stateside conduct an exemplary performance, but they took the time to delve into subjects that often remain untouched. Although some may argue that it dampens the mood of the night, discussions that have real-life applications are by far the most hard-hitting and important. Sometimes it takes a band to use their platform to spread key messages, to finally make it click, to make the audience aware. It becomes even more jarring when someone you love is affected, in this case, Ethan to the fans of Stateside. The discussion held that night was one of indisputable importance- one that may just be a lifesaver in the future. I truly applaud Stateside for using their platform to shed light on such shadowed topic, and I truly wish Ethan the best on the road to recovery.

At the conclusion of these two stellar opening acts, it was finally time for the homegrown heroes, With Confidence.

The prompt introduction to ‘Moving Boxes’ was met by the roar of the eager crowd- anyone from outside the venue could certainly tell the big moment had arrived. With precise execution and outstanding vocals from the get-go, you could tell we were in for a night to remember.

Song after song, With Confidence effortlessly streamed together an incredible setlist ranging from newer, older, B-Side and popular tracks. There was truly something for everyone. This catering to the audience ultimately showed within the floor that night. No one was still, and better yet, everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Whether they were dancing on the spot or joining the occasional circle pit, no one could defeat the spreading joy that this band unleashed. With Confidence’s performance truly encapsulated one of the biggest recurring notions of the night; the energy that the artist puts out will ultimately be reflected in the energy of the audience. A night with three acts notable for doing just this is exhausting but truly encapsulates what a show is about. They are about having fun, making connections, and ultimately giving back to the artist through your presence- both literally and metaphorically. After a mostly high-intensity show, there were a few moments that were dedicated to intimate interactions- ones enhanced by the small nature of the venue.

Playing upon Erin’s emotional impact, she was invited to the stage yet again to perform ‘Pâquerette (Without Me)’ with the boys. This stripped-back feature of the night was astonishing and depicted the true emotion that is held within every song, performance and lyric. Sometimes these elements become overshadowed by the instrumentals and flashy lights, but moments like this showcase the prominence of such thought-provoking ideas and messages within the tracks of bands, in this case, With Confidence.

Yet another sombre moment was reached towards the latter end of the show. To the disgust of their record label, With Confidence performed their cover song for the second volume of the ‘Songs That Saved My Life’ compilation, ‘Drops of Jupiter’, weeks before its release. To many, this was an incredible moment, inducing jaw-drops and teary eyes throughout the venue. The original beauty of this song was only heightened by the talent of the band, and the emotional connection they build with the individuals surrounding them. It was an unforgettable moment, yet again linking back to the important discussions held by Stateside that night. Such a performance only boosted the advocacy for such a salient topic, highlighting how essential it is to discuss such notions freely and without judgement.

After a rollercoaster of a night in terms of emotion and songs performed, With Confidence concluded with two of their most beloved, impactful and crowd-dependent songs to end on the biggest high of the night. ‘Icarus’ and ‘Voldemort’ were left until lucky last, but were met with just as much energy and excitement as the first few songs. Songs such as these displayed great unity within the venue, creating a true connection within a room of strangers. It was certainly something to behold.

One of the most heartwarming moments of the show was constantly seeing the band members smiling and enjoying themselves too. This was their hometown show, the people in which they grew up with and created their musical environment around. Now, those same people are chanting the lyrics they created right back at them. I feel as though there would be no greater measure of success.

As the night came to a close, I feel as though the success and triumphs met by With Confidence had only just sunk in. This show was a small portion of a world tour, it was a show representing a body of work, a show that has marked their growth since their last appearance in Sydney. For that reason, it was both inspiring and emotional to see how they have grown, developed and used their platform for good.

After a night filled with three amazing acts, I was left beyond satisfied. I can not speak more highly of these acts if I tried, and a large portion of this admiration came from what I saw on the night. All three bands show so much energy, a tremendous amount of talent and a passion that lies within music. In particular, With Confidence truly highlighted the significance of hometown shows for me. I can imagine how many familiar faces were in the room, and how many of these faces have watched them grow into the incredible, world-recognised act they are today. I can not wait to see them at a show in the future, and hopefully allow these warm memories to come rushing back. If With Confidence head out on a show near you, I would highly recommend going. I can confidently say you will encounter a very memorable and emotional night.

All Time Low Release New Track With Music Video

all-time-low

Prolonged teasing and months of speculation has finally lead to the release of a brand new song from the incredible All Time Low!

Their new track, titled ‘Some Kind Of Disaster’, is brilliantly catchy, heartfelt, and an excellent return back after a period without new music. The band also shared a thought-provoking music video to accompany the new track.

Both the band account and the members’ personal accounts had this message to share;

“The Young Renegades are no more… Reintroducing your favourite disaster, All Time Low. We took a step away for a minute- did some growing, did some soul searching, some healing… Now we’re back and ready to be all yours again, our battle scars worn proudly, and our hair looking better than ever. (it’s best if you just agree).

We’ve missed you all so much and we’re so excited for what comes next. Feels like we’ve been keeping secrets from you for way too long… Been hard to keep our mouths shut, honestly.

It’s a song and dance we’ve done a thousand times before, but this one feels extra-good. Besides, it’s never the same dance twice.
Hope you dig this new song as much as we do… After all, it’s all for you.”
