CONCERT REVIEW: COIN Transforms Amsterdam Into A Party

It was the first time that COIN came to the Netherlands, on November 11th. They came to Amsterdam and had Flor open for them even though it was a small venue. Another impressive thing was that the show had been sold out for months already. And with all those things, we got to be there.

I was able to be front row, so I literally stood against the stage. We had to wait half an hour before Flor came on stage. Flor didn’t have the longest setlist, only 7 songs, and they were also done playing pretty fast. There were some people who came specifically for Flor while they were announced as the opener only 2 weeks prior.
They put on a great show, it wasn’t a long show as I said, but there’s something about the venue that makes every concert more special. It felt like everyone was more present in the moment than usual. Zach, the lead singer, also told us that this show felt more special and welcoming than most shows. If that’s real or not is up to you, because you can say a lot of things in the moment. But it did feel great to hear. Check out the pictures we took below!

Flor:

We had to wait almost 15 minutes longer for COIN, we didn’t know the reason. We just had to wait. But it was amazing when they finally got on stage. The crowd’s cheering was as loud as some other huge artists except this venue was way smaller. They started off with a lot of flashing lights and a lot of great stage presence. They also blazed through the setlist like Flor. We were past the first 10 songs in no time.

Chase, the lead singer, talked more in the second half though. He talked about how weird it was to be so far away from home, but still feel so much at home. He signed someone’s merch, got 2 bracelets from fans, received a fan letter, and thanked us a lot for coming out to the show. He also gave the front row some candy after the band had some. They also had a small surprise in store for us. After they played the whole setlist that they taped on the ground, they played Fingers Crossed from their first album on Spotify. But every great thing has to end sadly and so this had to end too. After they bowed together and emptied a water bottle on us, they left the stage.

COIN said that they would be back as soon as possible. If you ever get the chance, go! If you like the music and if you like great interactions with the fans, then you should definitely go. Check out the pictures we took below!

CONCERT REVIEW: Leah Kate & Lølø Bring TikTok-Pop To Amsterdam

Leah Kate was in Amsterdam on November 8th. However, she didn’t come alone. She brought Lølø and Victoria Anthony with her to open for her. Leah Kate came here for her first headline tour after she’d already been touring as an opening act for Madison Beer. We had the pleasure to be there!

We arrived sometime after Victoria Anthony played, but the venue was quite full already. We only had to wait a few minutes before Lølø came on stage. She has a unique stage presence and interacts with fans in a great way. She also made her band part of the show. The guitarist put on a wig at one point and sang Teenage Dirtbag by Wheatus with her. The music was a bit TikTok-pop with a bit of rock mixed in, this made for a great atmosphere among the fans. The people who came for Lølø were also quite noticeable. With the often yelled: “I love you!” to which she always replied that she loves them too.

The music playing in between sets was louder than usual. With often a song in between that went viral on TikTok. No one seemed to mind that it was loud because everyone sang along to all the viral songs. Ending with World’s Smallest Violin by AJR. Leah Kate came on stage after that last song. She got welcomed with ear-deafening cheering from the crowd, which was quite impressive because the crowd was 300 people at most. Everyone was able to sing all the songs along with her. In between the songs she often told stories about her own life, and what was going on with her. She eventually ended her setlist with her most well-known song: 10 Things I Hate About You. If you’re a fan of Leah Kate or Lølø, I’d definitely recommend to go see them live. They put up a performance that any fan would be happy with.

Yungblud Releases New Song As Act Of Defiance Against Sadness

Yungblud has released his new song Don’t Feel Like Feeling Sad Today. The song is an act of defiance against sadness. It has a catchy and uplifting beat, which would help if you’re feeling down or if you’re already feeling great.
The song was first officially teased on Yungblud’s Twitter on June 18th. He announced that he would be shooting a music video on Monday the 20th and that he wanted to do that with fans. In the message, he encouraged fans to “come and bring signs, dress how you fuckin want”. He also told fans to bring water guns.
On June 20th, he tweeted an image with an x captioned “meet me here” and a few hours later he tweeted a video of him dancing on stage to the song. There were also a lot of fans to be seen with signs and water everywhere. With that tweet, he announced that the song would be called Don’t Feel Like Feeling Sad Today and that it would be released on the 29th of June.
The music video starts off with a black screen with the text “this is what happiness feels like… to me” further emphasizing the happiness part from the first tweet. The rest of the music video shows him dancing on stage with shots from all angles. Exactly the high-paced energy you’d expect from Yungblud. The fans that were there that day are also heavily featured, it’s hard to see how many fans there were but it was clearly a few hundred.
Overall, the song gives off a great vibe and it sounds amazing. The only downside to the song is that it’s not even two minutes long so there’s not a long time to enjoy. Luckily, the replayability is pretty high so having it on repeat for a while will not bore you! My advice: go out, grab some friends, dance to this song together in a park and have a fun time! And maybe even take water guns with you if it’s hot out.

CONCERT REVIEW: Rise Against Leave Huge Impact In Amsterdam

It’s been a few months since Rise Against was last in the Netherlands, as they headlined Jera On Air in the summer, but they are back for more! They played in the AFAS Live on November 6th with The Story So Far as their opener.

Of course, we had to be there! Especially after interviewing Zach Blair, one of the guitarists of Rise Against, a few weeks ago. I got there a little over half an hour before The Story So Far would be starting their set, and thus I was able to be relatively close to the stage. The venue seemed to be pretty full when The Story So Far started. The crowd was pretty hyped up already for a opening act, and deservingly so. They played some great songs, and a few mosh pits formed during their set. No one was prepared for what was about to happen though.

Rise Against started their set with Re-education (Tough Labor) and got welcomed greatly with a big pit at the first song already. But they could do better than what the crowd could, they played their song The Dirt Whispered for the first time since 2015! Rise Against also stopped for a second because they saw people standing front row all the way from Mexico and Portugal. They then asked who also came from outside the Netherlands, which turned out to be quite a lot of people. Tim, the lead singer, then asked who didn’t just come from outside the Netherlands but also outside of Europe. That number turned out to be surprisingly high. I’d say above 200 people were actually from outside of Europe.

The solidarity of the fanbase showed once more when they asked everyone to put up their flashlight during Nowhere Generation. Seeing almost everyone in the venue put up some form of light almost made me tear up. A lot of people also got their camera and filmed everyone around me, this is one of the most impressive and impactful things I’ve seen at a concert. Overall, they had an incredible performance with another great surprise during the encore. They played Paper Wings for the first time since 2012! If you ever get the chance to, definitely go see Rise Against. They’re a great band, with a great show to see and they have even greater stories to tell. Check out the pictures we took there below!

CONCERT REVIEW: Alexisonfire Ends Tour With Great Music And Great Crowd

Alexisonfire was in the Netherlands on November 1st with the last show of their tour. They brought along Higher Power and Boston Manor. We had the pleasure to be there, we also got the chance to take some great pictures.

I arrived a little bit before Boston Manor started so I sadly did miss Higher Power. Boston Manor was finally back in the Netherlands after their show at the end of June when they opened for Neck Deep. Again, they did not disappoint at all and got the crowd pretty hyped while playing popular songs like Foxglove, Crocus and Halo.
They had to ask the crowd to form a mosh pit, but the crowd formed one as soon as it was said. It didn’t end quickly either, the moshing continued for a while. Boston Manor had the end-of-tour talk around the end of the setlist since it was the last show of the tour, and it was another successful one. The whole band flew in each other’s arms after their set ended. It was really great to see them have such a real reaction to the end of tour. I would highly recommend everyone to go see Boston Manor if you get the chance. Check out the pictures we took of Boston Manor below!

Boston Manor:

After that, it was time for Alexisonfire. Wow, what a unique band. This band had one of the best stage presences I’ve ever seen. It already started with the bass player. He kept running everywhere on the stage, coming back to the crowd, and making these weird faces. It gave a great feeling of the band actually knowing that you are standing there and enjoying their music. He also often looked at individual fans in such a way that you knew that he was thankful and happy to be there.

If that wasn’t all, they also have 3 vocalists which make for a dynamic that you rarely see. All of them had their own moments and all of them had a unique stage presence. On another important note, the music was absolutely amazing. The way they played didn’t feel over the top but also not too tame. There are not a lot of bands who can create such a big effect on the crowd without even doing a lot of extremely special stuff. I felt really included during the concert.

I would absolutely recommend going to Alexisonfire, their tour just ended so you’ll have to wait for a bit but check them out at least once if you get the chance. Check out the pictures Lonneke Prins took below and let us know what you thought of it!
