Mel Torres and Jacob Ortiz from Asylus Cover Panic! At the Disco’s “Say Amen (Saturday Night)”
But what’s cool about their version is that they didn’t try to fully mimic the original. These two guys put an edgy rock twist on the track, featuring a post-hardcore sound on the second verse.
Best part? They even added some A Fever You Cant Sweat Out vibes to it. We’re sure our dedicated Panic! fans can probably spot one of them around 1:57!
“Having grown up during the Fever-era of Panic!, we knew going into this cover that we wanted to include a lot of callbacks to the first album. And the best part about that was that we really didn’t have to try very hard to fit any of them in!,” says Jacob.
Mel and Jacob integrated the riff from “But It’s Better If You Do” on the intro of the track along with the synth leads from “Time to Dance” and “The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide is Press”. You can also find the intro to “I Write Sins not Tragedies” in there!
“We were trying to find a way to reference as much Panic! At the Disco as we possibly could, so even worked in the “Intermission” into our teaser,” says Mel. “We wanted this cover to feel as nostalgic as we possibly could.”
Overall, these two guys had a lot of fun covering “Say Amen (Saturday Night)”. They’re “super proud” of what they came up with, and so are we!
