Halsey Releases New Single ‘So Good’
Halsey was finally able to release her new single, So Good.
The song is a soft pop ballad that still has a bit of rock influence from their latest album, If I Can’t Have Love. Then I Want Power. Despite the taste of rock that listeners get, the song very much sounds like a song from Manic, which has softer, moodier songs that are nostalgic and sad.
The lyrics describe a lost lover who later returns: “When you left, I bet you held her body closer/And I was hoping you would tell her it was over/You’re all I think about and everywhere I look/I know it’s bad, but we could be so good.”
Halsey had previously revealed that the single was about her partner Alev Aydin and their relationship. “It’s about Alev :’)” she announced on Twitter. “Part of the story of how we went from meeting and keeping touch randomly for years to realizing we were each others person all along. Right person wrong time type of song.”
So Good comes after the situation with Halsey’s record label, Capitol Music Group, when they claimed they wouldn’t let her release the song unless she could create a viral TikTok moment. After a bit of back-and-forth, the song was promised a release date of June 9.
The music video will be released later today, and is directed by Alev. Halsey described it as a “camp horror” like video.
