Pinhead Gunpowder Return With New Album ‘UNT’ After 15-Year Hiatus

After years of anticipation, East Bay punk legends Pinhead Gunpowder are officially back with brand-new music! The band—featuring Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong, touring guitarist Jason White, drummer/lyricist Aaron Cometbus, and bassist Bill Schneider—have just announced their latest album UNT, marking their first release since 2008’s West Side Highway EP.

Fans can look forward to the full album dropping on October 18th via 1-2-3-4 Go Records, but the title track and album opener, Unt, is already available to stream today.

In a statement, the band reflected on their journey over the last few decades:

“Pinhead Gunpowder started writing songs in 1990 and made our first 7” the following spring. Nearly every year since, we’ve met up to play. Some years we recorded – five albums and 11 EPs – and some years we played shows.”

The punk quartet has maintained a unique bond throughout the years, and even though they’ve been somewhat under the radar since 2010, their creative process has remained strong. Instead of focusing on producing an album or gearing up for tours, they’ve enjoyed playing music together purely for themselves.

“We went back to the basement every year,” the band’s statement continues. “We lived in the house we’d built, remembering how we’d made the music for each other in the first place.”

Between their other commitments and projects, finding time for a new record wasn’t easy. But when the moment finally arrived, the band felt rejuvenated: “We think it’s our best yet – our catchiest, most collaborative, and most poignant.”
