Songwriter Fall Out Boy’s “Centuries” Confirms It Is About Trans Pioneer Marsha P. Johnson.
Justin Tranter, songwriter of Fall Out Boy’s single ‘Centuries’ has confirmed the song is about trans pioneer Marsha P. Johnson.
He was a guest performer at Spirit Day, an annual event raising awareness of the bullying of the LGBTQ community, when he explained his inspiration for the track.
Before he performed a cover of the track, he said:“I want every LGBTQ person to know that our ideas are mainstream. We have stories to tell and people will fucking listen.”.
Marsha P. Johnson was the co-founder of transgender organization STAR (Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries), focused on providing aid and assistance to transgender people, drag queens, gender-nonconforming people and homeless LGBT youth.
