Billie Eilish Unveils Haunting New Song

The opening chorus of sombre harmonies feels like a cold winter wind picking up and breezing through the room, and continues with the subtle rise and fall of sound in the track. It’s like being transported to a cold night heading home alone with the bitter night air nipping at your skin, but with some sort of soft wind cushioning you. The song rocks gently back and forth between near silence and the rise of music. 

Eilish’s voice is close to mournful. She reaches such stunning high notes in a modest way which makes her sound vulnerable, which is a perfect fit for the story the song tells, which is of someone who is afraid of being alone so much that they tear themselves apart just to try to keep their mysterious partner from leaving. It’s sad, beautiful, and is absolutely worth the listen.
